The St. Andrew Old Girls Association (SAOGA), formed in 1931 (six years after the school’s birth) sets out in its constitution its aims to :
- Bring into close contact all Past Students
- Foster and maintain their interest in the Institution
- Partake in social welfare work of whatever nature
The group prefers to be known as “old girls” rather than “past students” as the former term established a stronger link with the school and reminded them that no matter where they went, they would be St. Andrew Girls at heart.
During the late 30s and 40s the old girls became involved in the war effort through larger bodies such as the Jamaica Federation of Women. The SAOGA raised funds through teas and dances. Proceeds went towards helping Childrens homes, orphanages and schools for blind, deaf and dumb.
During the 50s and 60s as the school grew in size fund-raising efforts turned inwards to the school and its students. Scholarship trust funds were set up for needy students. By the 70s the SAOGA had set up the School Welfare Fund and the Breakfast programme.
Throughout the years as the school campus expanded, the SAOGA has contributed to every major building project:
- Reconstruction after Hurricane Charlie 1951 & Hurricane Gilbert 1988
- Construction of Swimming pool 1968
- Library expansion
- Construction of Vocational Block
- Repaving of Tennis courts
Today the SAOGA's local chapter is continues to be very active and overseas chapters have been established in South Florida, New York, Washington DC, Toronto and London
